silicones
Gelest offers performance and formulating benefits with truly unique silicones using its expertise as a developer and manufacturer of silicon chemistries for high technology applications.
Diethicone
Diethicones combine excellent slip, increased lubricity with a much broader organic compatibility than Dimethicones, allowing formulation with many common cosmetic materials, including esters, hydrocarbons, waxes, sunscreens, and surfactants. Unlike traditional Dimethicones, Gelest Diethicones wet pigments well, a useful property for the formulation of color cosmetics and sunscreens containing pigments.
Methicones (Trisiloxanes)
Alkyl Trisiloxanes are light, dry emollient oils with good organic compatibility, even greater than that of traditional phenyl trimethicone. They are used to enhance slip and reduce tack in hair care, skin care, and color cosmetics. Organic and inorganic pigments can be easily wetted and dispersed in the Alkyl Trisiloxanes for use in foundations, eye shadows, blushes, and lip color.
Methicones (Polymers)
Alkyl and Alkyl-Aryl Methicones are polysiloxanes with pendant groups that provide good emolliency and skin feel for application in skin treatment and color cosmetics. Alkyl pendants, C8, C14 and C18, in the AM series provide for good common cosmetic ingredient compatibility as well as modify the melt point The Aryl pendant of PM 212 adds gloss and tack.
